Writing well is a fundamental skill for getting ahead in life and work, and it is at risk of being lost in a world of AI-generated slop. Large language models have real benefits, and we are not against them. But we are worried about the skill of writing being lost, and we built this platform to counter that erosion.

Type Write Now is a writing gym with a typewriter as its interface. Come to it for ten minutes a day, write, and your record keeps what you did: the minutes, the words, the days in a row and the exercises you completed. Rewards along the way make the habit easy and fun to keep. It suits the writer who wants exercises and the writer who just wants the machine, and it pushes neither on the other.

1. Set your daily goalChoose how many minutes you will write each day. Ten is the default, and you can set more.
2. Pick a course, or just writeChoose a course — prompts, short stories, journaling, poetry, screenplays, letters or essays — and get one exercise a day, in order, on a fresh sheet. Or skip the course and freewrite.
3. Write for ten minutesThe clock only runs while you type, so ten minutes means ten minutes of writing. Meet your goal and the day counts toward your streak. Finish the exercise and you earn extra points. A rest day each week and two repairs a month keep your streak alive when life gets in the way.
4. Earn writers and typewritersThe more you write, the more famous writers you unlock, each with their own advice on the work. Keep the habit and you unlock new typewriters, each with its own sound. Export your writing any time as Word, Markdown or plain text.

The key to becoming a better writer is consistency. We believe ten minutes a day is enough to build the habit. That means ten minutes of actual writing, not ten seconds on one sentence and nine minutes fifty of staring at it. Our timer only counts time spent typing.
